The Toubkal National Park is the first park created by the Moroccan government in 1942 that covers 380 km². It is situated in the high Atlas region at a distance of 75 km from the city of Marrakech.
The Park is characterised by its exceptional weather: snow from November to Mai in a temperature under zero, and plenty of sunshine even in winter, It is also characterised by a multiplicity of rocks and lakes, peaks and rivers.
Toubkal National Park comprises many mountains: Jbel Toubkal (4167m), Ouanoukrim (4083m), Tazaghart plateau (3900m), Aksoual (3900m), Ineghmar (3800m), Bou Iguenouane (3800m), Tichki (3700m), Akioud (4030m), Timzguida (4088m), Azrou Tamadout (3600m). The Jbel Toubkal is the highest one at an altitude of 4167 m, and situated at a distance of 63 km south of Marrakech.
A variety of animal species lives freely under protection in the park, such as the mouflon sheep and many other species of birds, reptiles and various other mammals.
The Toubkal National Park by hosting the highest summit of the northern Africa and by offering rich camping, hiking and rock-climbing possibilities, it has become a venue for environmental tourism with a world wide reputation.
